The Dream Festival’s Seven in Seven fine dining experiences

Food, people and culture – three of my favourite ingredients for a memorable occasion. Rarely can one experience a variety of all three as frequently as one would like – and could afford. Except in Dubbo during May through November, when the Dream Festival joins forces with local chefs to host its annual “Seven in Seven” fine dining dinners. The once-a-month formal dining evenings deliver an experience of the cuisine, decor and dress of a selected country from one of  each of the seven continents – without the need for a passport!

Each month the location and continent changes. You’ve got to sign up to the Dream Festival’s mailing list or follow them on Facebook to know where the next Seven in Seven fine dining event will be and when tickets go on sale. Only 80 tickets are available for each event, ensuring an intimate evening and attentive service.

In 2013 – its inaugural year of the Seven in Seven fine dining dinners – I was lucky to enough to score a ticket to every event. This year, I’ve been invited to attend and review all the Dream Festival’s Seven in Seven fine dining dinners. Tough gig, but I’ll do it gladly! It is a not-for-profit organisation after all.

The Dream (Dubbo Regional Entertainment Arts and Music) Festival was founded in 2010 by the community of Dubbo. The Festival’s pinnacle soiree actually stretches across a few weeks in October each year. Like the location of its Seven in Seven fine dining dinners, the Festival’s annual program always changes.

In previous years the Dream Festival has attracted musicians the likes of Timomatic and The Trouble with Templeton, and has had the support of homegrown talent including dancer Charles Bartley and musical director Kellie Dickerson. The Festival also showcases the best of local produce and offerings at events like the Dream Senses Market and themed outdoor cinema evenings at the Old Dubbo Gaol. The Festival is steadily growing, last year attracting 9,500 people.

This year, Seven in Seven is back by popular demand. Thinking back to each of last year’s dinners, the people I met, and the creativity of each of the chefs, I can’t wait to sample all that Seven in Seven has in store for 2014!

The Australian themed Seven in Seven fine dining experience in 2013 was delivered by Anthony Walkom and team at The Outlook Cafe. The night started with canapés of yabbies with boccocini and fresh basil, kangaroo and tomato relish on damper, and mini meat pies, followed by mains of barramundi with lemon myrtle butter, and lamb with Vegemite jus, and finished with a dessert tasting plate of pavlova, iced vovo slice and lamination ice cream.
